Keyword explained
A keyword is a word or phrase that you want to show up for in a Google search with a particular page. All pages on your website can have their own keywords.
In short, a keyword can be more than one word – it can be a sentence. A whole sentence can even be a keyword, which is called a longtail keyword.
Usually, you choose keywords for your pages or posts based on search volume. A shorter word or phrase, such as “vitamins,” has a higher search volume than a longer word, such as “vitamin deficiency in vegans.” The same is true of competition – it’s usually much harder to show up in Google for a high-volume word than for a low-volume phrase made up of a few words.
Longtail keywords or longtail phrase is when it’s a longer phrase, usually with lower volume and less competition. It’s often easier to show up for longtail keywords than short one- or two-word phrases.
Previously, there was also a meta-tag called the “meta keyword,” which sometimes referred to keywords or search terms, but the contents of that tag are no longer taken into consideration by search engines and can be safely ignored.
To follow which position you appear on Google when searching for different keywords (your position in SERP ), you need a rank tracking tool.
